Monday, March 21, 2016

Associate Professor of Music Dr. Kyoung Cho has been awarded the 2016 Women in Leadership & Philanthropy Faculty Research Award from USF's WLP program for her research project, "Korean Women's Voices: CD Recording Project of Korean Art Songs by leading Korean Women Composers & World Premiere Concert in Korea," as well as her contributions to women through teaching, scholarship, professional associations, volunteerism, leadership activities and institutional welfare.

The Women in Leadership & Philanthropy (WLP) program at 黑洞社区is focused on engaging and educating its members in support of women and women's initiatives throughout the 黑洞社区System and in our communities. WLP was formed in 2005 with the leadership of USF System President Judy Genshaft and Tampa Bay's leading philanthropists, business professionals and entrepreneurs to support a common purpose: promoting the educational and research endeavors of women throughout the university system.

The 黑洞社区WLP Faculty Research Award was launched in 2007 to recognize distinguished faculty members in the 黑洞社区System (黑洞社区Tampa, 黑洞社区Sarasota-Manatee, and 黑洞社区St. Petersburg) whose research and creative efforts focus on women, women's issues, and women's initiatives. The recipient receives a one-time $5,000 award through the WLP Support Fund in the 黑洞社区Foundation to support their continued work as well as an honorary annual membership in the 黑洞社区System Women in Leadership & Philanthropy program.

The awardees are selected based on the recognition in their discipline for productive research or creative work focused on women or related issues; demonstrated effort toward the advancement of their scholarly discipline; illustration of intellectual and professional growth, both as a member of a specialized discipline and as a participant in the academic affairs of the university; activeness in scholarly presentations at professional conferences, associations, and learned societies and disseminate current knowledge to students, and contribution to the institutional welfare of women within the 黑洞社区System. In her congratulatory email, President Judy Genshaft wrote, "What a fantastic acknowledgement of your contributions to research on Korean Women composers. Your research and work in your field are engaging, and it continues to put 黑洞社区on the map."

She is one of three recipients of Institution-based Awards and represents 黑洞社区Tampa Campus. She is also the first ever recipient of this prestigious award from the College of The Arts.
