BIO

Deborah S. Bowen, Ph.D., enjoys teaching 鈥渓iving writing鈥 鈥 the writing students will use daily in their personal and professional lives 鈥 in classes such as Writing for Mass Media, Writing for Public Relations, Advertising Creativity, and Introduction to Strategic Communications. Her classes are client-focused, and students work on behalf of real (and grateful!) not-for-profit small organizations in the Bay Area. Her courses are certified as service-learning opportunities.

She is the faculty adviser to USF鈥檚 Gold Star chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of American (PRSSA) and coaches the Bateman Competition team.

Dr. Bowen鈥檚 research interests include applying 鈥渃lassic鈥 mass communications theories to new and emerging media to determine if/how human behavior changes (or doesn鈥檛!) over this new communication landscape.

In her spare time, she can be found consulting for local restaurants as a social media strategist and content manager.

She loves iPhone Boggle, reading, Twitter, podcasts, and Disneyana, albeit not necessarily in that order.
