Madeline C谩mara Betancourt holds a PhD in Spanish Philology from NY Stony Brook University. She is currently a professor of Latin American literature at the University of South Florida, and has also taught at the University of Havana at UNAM in Mexico City and San Diego State University, California. 

She has received, among other awards, The Rockefeller Fellowship in Humanities at Florida International University, and the Fulbright Scholarship. Her recent research is focused on the Spanish philosopher Mar铆a Zambrano.

She has published two anthologies on Zambrano with the publishing house Juan de la Cuesta in the United States: Mar铆a Zambrano: Words for the World (2011) and Mar铆a Zambrano, between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean (2015).

Dr. C谩mara is a leading scholar in the field of Cuban Studies where she has published various books, Cuban Women Writers: Imagining a Matria (NY: Palgrave, 2008), La memoria hechizada (Barcelona: Icaria, 2002) La letra rebelde: estudios de escritoras cubanas (Miami: Universal, 2002), Cuba: The Ellusive Nation (University of Gainesville, Florida, 2000) Vocaci贸n de Casandra (NY: Peter Lang: 2000) and Cuentos Cubanos Contempor谩neos (Xalapa: Editorial Veracruzana, 1997) besides numerous articles and essays.
